Police Officers Assaulted in Gaithersburg

Jermaine Palmer, 35, of Germantown, was charged with multiple counts of assault, possession of controlled dangerous substances and burglary and is being held without bond.

According to Montgomery County Police, when an officer approached Palmer, he punched the officer in the face, causing the officer to fall backward onto the pavement and hit his head, leaving him unconscious. He was taken to the hospital.

Palmer then fled to the Flower Hill Shopping Center where several officers caught up with Palmer at a nearby McDonalds. When they tried to take him into custody, Palmer resisted and repeatedly punched several officers. One of those officers also was taken to the hospital.

Two Montgomery County Police officers were taken to the hospital Friday after being assaulted by a person they were trying to arrest, according to police.

According to police, at 8 p.m. on June 30, officers went to an apartment building in the 7900 block of Spiceberry Circle in Gaithersburg following a report of a person spraying a fire extinguisher in the hallway.

When the officers arrived, a victim said that the adult male spraying the extinguisher had broken into their apartment.

The suspect was located in the area of Washington Grove Lane and Mineral Springs Drive, which was where the suspect assaulted the officers, according to police.

The suspect fled to a McDonald’s at 18273 Flower Hill Way and assaulted more police officers.

The suspect was taken into custody. He also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
