Police Release Video of Suspect in Attempted Silver Spring Carjacking

Montgomery County Police are investigating an attempted carjacking in Silver Spring and have released surveillance video of the Dec. 22 crime.

At about 1:35 p.m., police responded to the 900 block of Philadelphia Avenue for a report of an attempted carjacking. According to police, a Hispanic male approached a female, who was standing by her vehicle, and asked for her car key. When she refused, the suspect struck the woman in her chest and neck.

Someone nearby heard the struggle and intervened by shouting at the suspect, who then fled, police said.

Police detectives reviewed surveillance footage from nearby residences to determine that the suspect has a beard and was carrying a messenger bag.

A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect. Callers can remain anonymous.

Carjackings and other violent crimes are on the increase in Silver Spring and throughout Montgomery County.
