Recreation Centers Hold Drive for New and Slightly Used Prom Dresses

Several county recreation centers are asking residents to donate new or gently used prom dresses to “help our local high school girls achieve their dream prom night,” according to Montgomery County Recreation’s Twitter page.

The recreation centers are accepting dresses and other accessories until March 31 and girls will look through the dresses on April 16. Dresses and accessories can be dropped off at these recreation centers during these times:

  • Praisner Recreation Center (Monday through Thursday from 9:00-6:00; Friday from 9:00-3:00; Saturday from 10:00-3:00)
  • Potomac Community Recreation Center at 11315 Falls Road (Saturday, Feb. 19 and Saturday, March 19 from 10:00-2:00)
  • Jane Lawton Community Recreation Center at 4301 Willow Lane in Bethesda (Saturday, Feb. 19 and Saturday, March 19 from 10:00-2:00)
  • Germantown Community Recreation Center at 18905 Kingsview Road (Saturday, Feb. 26 and Saturday, March 19 from 10:00-2:00)
  • Nancy H. Dacek North Potomac Community Recreation Center at 13805 Travilah Road in Rockville (Saturday, Feb. 26, Saturday, March 19 from 10:00-2:00 and Saturday, March 26 from 10:00-2:00)

“The past couple of years our young people have lost out on many special events such as graduations, homecomings and proms,” said Montgomery County Recreation Director Robin Riley. “I am proud of all of the work our recreation staff do to make positive changes in the lives of teens and that we are providing an opportunity for girls to have a prom dress, so they feel good about attending their prom.”
