Quince Orchard Alum Named Charlotte Hornets New Head Coach

Charles Lee has been named the new head coach of the Charlotte Hornets the team announced Thursday. Lee was born in Washington D.C., grew up in Gaithersburg attending Quince Orchard High School.

β€œThe opportunity to be the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets is a dream come true,” said Lee.Β  β€œI want to thank Rick Schnall, Gabe Plotkin and Jeff Peterson for the trust they are placing in me to lead this team. The Hornets have a talented young core of players and I’m excited about our future and what we can build here. There are few places as passionate about basketball as the Carolinas, and I look forward to coming to Charlotte and getting to work.”

Lee was a two-time Patriot League tournament MVP for Bucknell and was the conference player of the year in 2006.

Lee, 39, has been assistant coach in the NBA for 10 years. He is currently the top assistant with the Boston Celtics and won a championship ring in 2021 as an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks.
