A Rockville man was found guilty for a killing at a Red Roof Inn last year.

Sergey Danshin, 35, was convicted of first-degree murder and related handgun charges by a jury in Montgomery County Circuit Court on Friday, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office (MCSAO).

Per MCSAO, on June 22, 2022, Danshin and a co-defendant knocked on a room at the Red Roof Inn around the 16000 block of Shady Grove Road in Rockville, where the victim, 39-year-old Javier Gonzalez-Mena, was staying. There was an initial confrontation and then Danshin left the area of the room, but he returned minutes later to ambush Gonzalez-Mena and fatally shot him.

Gonzalez-Mena’s girlfriend was holding his hand during the shooting and Danshin ordered her to come to a get-away car, according to MCSAO. He removed a face covering and revealed his identity, and the two knew each other.

Gonzalez-Mena’s girlfriend called 911 as soon as she could, MCSAO said.

Danshin was arrested, along with co-defendant Micah Clemons, 33, of Virginia, and the driver of the get-away car, Willman Quintanilla, 43, of Boyds.

Danshin is set to be sentenced April 6. He faces up to life in prison. Clemons and Quintanilla have pleaded guilty to charges and are set to be sentenced March 10.
