Welcome to our Weekend Roundup of events in Montgomery County. Here are nine things to do this weekend, September 29 – October 1.

FRIDAY, September 29

Everything Pumpkin Weekend: The Family Room in Laytonsville is more than just a local store, it is a gathering place with events planned throughout the year. Everything Pumpkin Weekend, features a pumpkin patch, pumpkin spice mocha, spicy pumpkin tea, and pumpkin cheesecake ice cream. Friday through Sunday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily at 6820 Olney Laytonsville Road.

Also, Butler’s Orchard in Germantown welcomes residents for fall festivities. MCM’s Maryam Shahzad has the highlights.

Summer in the Square (Extended): Rock-n-Roll band The National Bohemians perform an outdoor concert tonight at the Rockville Town Square from 6 to 9 p.m. The Town Square is located at 200 E. Middle Lane.

Elevation Art Exhibit: International artist, art critic and art educator Vian Borchert has a solo exhibition titled “Elevation” at the Framer’s Choice Gallery in the Kentlands neighborhood of Gaithersburg. The exhibit runs from now through Oct. 31 with an opening reception on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 3-5 p.m. Gallery hours are Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The gallery is located at 402 Main Street in Gaithersburg.

SATURDAY, September 30

Poolesville Big Flea: This large community yard sale and recycling event includes paper shredding, paint disposal and electronics recycling. The Big Flea takes place at Whalens Commons Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. The commons is the focal point for town activities and is located at 19701 Fisher Avenue in Poolesville.

Hispanic Heritage Month: Enjoy live music and dance performances to celebrate the Latino and Hispanic culture Saturday at Westfield Wheaton Mall from 1 to 5 p.m. There will also be face painting, balloon figures, clown shows, and a bilingual theatreical showcase. The mall is located at 11160 Veirs Mill Rd.

Apple Cider Pressing: Try your hand at apple cider pressing, making pumpkin bird feeders and creepy crafts, and create a scarecrow for your front yard. Montgomery Parks hosts this event Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Maydale Nature Classroom in Colesville. Cost is $7 per person; register online here.

SUNDAY, October 1

Takoma Park Street Festival: The popular Takoma Park Street Festival returns for its 42nd year of music, vendors, food and fun. The free festival takes place Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located on Carroll Avenue in Takoma Park, Maryland to Carroll Street, NW in Takoma, D.C. There will be more than 165 vendors booths, live music from 18 local bands and food trucks. The Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department holds their yearly open house during the festival. Echo Arts Festival: Glen Echo Park hosts a celebration of visual and performing arts today from noon to 5 p.m. The free event includes hands-on activities, live music, open art galleries and studios, and dance and movement programs. A community art project takes place in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Free shuttle service is provided from the USPTO Office in Alexandria AND from the Waverly St. Parking Garage in Bethesda. Find more information here.

2922 Echo Arts Festival Highlights

Silver Spring Arts & Crafts Fall Fair: Paintings, art photography, hand-made jewelry, glass and wood products, home decor, clothing and accessories will be on display at Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. More than 80 artisans and crafters will have booths at the fair. Admission is free. Find more information here.

Also, on Saturday, Silver Spring hosts a fall makers market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. along Ellsworth Drive with more than 35 local artisans, live music and dining options.
