Victim: 85-year-old Josephine Gieske
Jesica Argueta, 24, of Silver Spring, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the death of 85-year-old Josephine Gieske in August of 2025. According to a press release from the State’s Attorney’s Office, her sentence was suspended to all but one year with five years of probation.
Argueta pled guilty in July to one count of vehicular manslaughter by gross negligence and one count of second-degree assault. She admitted to causing the collision that killed Gieske and seriously injured another driver.
The crash happened on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025 at 7:44 a.m. in Silver Spring at the intersection of Randolph Road and Sherwood Forest Drive. Argueta was driving her 2025 Toyota GR86 at speeds of up to 84.5 miles an hour in a 40-mph zone.
Weaving through rush hour traffic Argueta struck the victim’s 2011 Toyota Forerunner. The crash ultimately killed Gieske who was a front seat passenger and caused serious injuries to the driver. The crash victims were on their way home from church and making a left-hand turn when their car was hit.
Both victims were taken to the hospital. Gieske died on Aug. 22, 2025, from injuries sustained in the collision.
