Silver Spring Man Arrested for Possessing Fentanyl, Illegal Firearm

Alan Garcia, 20, of Silver Spring, was arrested Tuesday, March 21. He faces charges including illegal possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, per a release from the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).

Police officers responded to a complaint from business owners and residents of an ongoing problem with alcohol and drug use and disruptive behavior in a Glenmont shopping center when they came across Garcia and a juvenile.

Police officers observed drug equipment when they approached Garcia and the juvenile, who at the time were in an area of the shopping center marked with “No Trespassing” signs. According to the report, Garcia attempted to run but was quickly detained and arrested.

When police searched Garcia, they found hundreds of Fentanyl pills, a large amount of cash, and drug equipment with Heroin residue. Garcia also had a fully automatic ghost gun.

The juvenile was arrested and charged with possession of drug equipment and trespassing. She was later released to her parent.

Garcia was charged with possessing an illegal firearm in the commission of a felony, possessing with the intent to distribute drugs, resisting arrest and trespassing.

He was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and is being held without bond.
