Transmission Tower Repairs Finished Following Gaithersburg Plane Crash

Repairs are now complete after a plane crashed into power lines in Gaithersburg last November.

The repairs to the damaged Gaithersburg transmission tower and overhead lines were finished on Feb. 3, Pepco told MyMCM in an update.

On Nov. 27, 2022, a small plane with two occupants crashed into power lines and became stuck by Rothbury Drive and Goshen Road in Gaithersburg. The occupants were rescued around midnight, hours after the crash occurred, and the plane was lowered hours later. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash and a report shared preliminary findings.

According to a news release Tuesday from Pepco, the company is replacing and upgrading underground power lines to improve reliability in areas including Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village.
