U.S. Representative Ivey Travels to El Salvador on Behalf of Abrego Garcia

According to multiple news sources, Prince George’s County U.S. Representative Glenn Ivey (D-4) flies to El Salvador on Friday to intervene in the unlawful extradition of his constituent Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Garcia remains imprisoned in an industrial penitentiary after being deported to the Central American country without due process mid-March.

Since his deportation Abrego Garcia has spoken to only one person outside the prison, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen. He has no contact with members of his family or his lawyer. He remains imprisoned despite a Supreme Court order directing the administration to “facilitate” his return.

Ivey hopes to meet with several officials in El Salvador including the Vice President, Felix Ulloa. Senator Van Hollen spoke with Ulloa during his visit in April.

Just last week at a hearing at the federal courthouse in Greenbelt, Department of Justice lawyer Jonathan D. Guynn was quoted as saying of Abrego Garcia, “He’ll never walk free in the United States.”

Guynn added if Abrego Garcia was returned to the United States he would be arrested and deported again.
