Understanding Job Loss Anxiety

According to Maryland’s Department of Labor, federal layoffs in the state this year add up to more than 5000 jobs. And many who still have their jobs face a lot of employment uncertainty.

Experiencing anxiety over a potential or actual job loss is completely understandable and more common than you might think. Job loss can trigger a range of emotional responses, which can impact your wellbeing both mentally and physically.

Dr. Fabian Sandoval, CEO of Emerson Clinical Research Institute, explains some of the most common symptoms.

“The anxiety you’re experiencing regarding job loss is valid and understandable. By acknowledging these feelings, taking active steps to manage stress, and possibly seeking professional guidance, you can navigate this challenging period while maintaining your well-being. Each small step is a move toward reclaiming control and setting the stage for a new chapter in your career and personal life”, explains Dr. Sandoval.
