Unemployment Claims in Montgomery County Hold Steady

The number of Montgomery County residents who filed initial claims for unemployment during the week that ended Sept. 5 remained constant. 1,143 residents filed initial unemployment claims the previous week, compared to 1,167 residents who filed the week ending Sept. 1.

Statewide, the number of initial filers decreased by about 500 people. During the week ending on Sept. 5, 11,324 Marylanders filed initial claims. The previous week, 11, 875 state residents filed initial claims, according to the Maryland Department of Labor.

According to WalletHub, an internet site, the number of new unemployment claims remained unchanged this month. It also was reported on that site that Maryland had the eighth fastest recovery over the previous year in the United States.
