Victim Identified in Fairland Shooting

Police identified the man who died in a shooting Monday in the Fairland area.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and has now been identified as 22-year-old Rakiy Deinol Gardner.

Officers and fire rescue personnel responded to the 14300 block of Fairdale Road at about 10:57 p.m. Monday for a reported burglary in progress, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).

Police found Gardner outside suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, according to police, and he was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts.

According to police, a Mercedes CLA 250 sedan was seen leaving at high speed and hit an officer in a marked patrol car who was responding to the scene.

Both the officer and driver were taken to hospitals for evaluation.

Officers found a second male with an apparent gunshot wound and he was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. During the shooting investigation, multiple calls came in for a “suspicious person” in the 14300 block of Bradshaw Drive, according to police. Officers responded and found a man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. 

Previously, police shared that one person was in custody. Police have said the person was determined not to be a suspect.
