‘Voice of Cougar Football’ Lee Faris Dies at 77

Wilson “Lee” Faris, Jr., 77, died March 27 after a two-year battle with ALS.

Faris was known as the voice of Quince Orchard football, serving as the Cougar Dome’s public address announcer from 1994-2019. He received an outpouring of love and support on X following his passing.

“Mr. Faris is Cougar Pride and his voice will be forever heard in the Cougar Dome!” wrote Quince Orchard Principal Beth Thomas.

“If you have been to a QO football game in the last 2 decades you know the voice,” wrote head coach John Kelley. “Going to miss him and his famous line to start each game. ‘Let’s play some Cougar football.'”

Faris was born in Richmond and graduated from the University of Richmond in 1968. He and his family moved to Gaithersburg in 1978.

Following his retirement in 2019, he was inducted into the Quince Orchard Athletic Hall of Fame. The City of Gaithersburg also designated Jan. 5 as “Lee Faris Day.”

According to Faris’s obituary, a public visitation will be held Apr. 4 at 9 a.m. at DeVol Funeral Home in Gaithersburg.
