Volunteers Sought for Upcoming Tax Season

Volunteers are sought for the upcoming tax season.

The county Community Action Agency’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is recruiting volunteers to become certified “tax preparers, schedulers, greeters, quality reviewers and site coordinators,” per a release.

The VITA program offers free tax assistance to county residents with household incomes of $64,000 or less.

There is significant need for volunteer schedulers, per the release, who will answer phone calls and schedule appointments.

Volunteers get free training and are advised to complete a registration form. Two information sessions will be held online Wednesday, Nov. 8. High school students can volunteer as greeters or schedulers and receive SSL hours. Bilingual volunteers are strongly encouraged.

County Executive Marc Elrich said in a written statement, “Ensuring that eligible low-income residents have access to tax preparation from qualified preparers can help them learn about and apply for all tax credits they are eligible for. Year after year, the VITA program provides beneficial services and I encourage anyone who is interested in providing neighbor to neighbor help to learn more about the volunteer opportunity.”
