2. Foodie Fridays Speakers Series:  ‘Food is Freedom’ is the topic for Montgomery Parks Speaker Series. Food and farming have a long history of being tied to freedom – and enslavement. For the final Foodie Fridays of the year, speakers will discuss the power rooted in food and farming. The discussion takes place at the Josiah Henson Museum and Park located at 11410 Old Georgetown Road in North Bethesda from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Registration is required and costs $10.

3. Safe Rides Home: Free rides home are available from Saturday at 4 p.m. until Sunday at 4 a.m. Last year, 943 persons in the Washington-metropolitan area used the free safe ride service rather than possibly drive home impaired.

4. Drug Takeback: Montgomery County participates in the DEA’s Nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Saturday, Oct. 28. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., residents can stop by any of the county’s National Take-Back Day locations in Bethesda, Silver Spring, Wheaton, Germanton, Chevy Chase, and Gaithersburg.

5. Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan: Montgomery Planning hosts an in-person community meeting about the Clarksburg Gateway Sector Plan Saturday, Oct. 28 at Rocky Hill Middle School from 10 a.m. – 2  p.m.

And one more thing: Early voting takes place Sunday, Oct 29 for the city of Gaithersburg election. Voters may cast their ballots for three councilmembers at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
