Warrior Canine Connection Holds Closing-In Party to Mark Barn Renovation

Warrior Canine Connection (WCC) hosted a closing-in party Wednesday ahead of the next stage renovating its barn from 1938.

WCC is the organization on Schaeffer Road in Boyds that enlists recovering veterans in a therapeutic mission to train service dogs for other veterans, according to its website.

More than 100 people attended Wednesday’s event, according to WCC. Veterans, military families, puppy raisers, volunteers and staff, and construction team members were in attendance.

They wrote supportive messages on the barn’s interior walls, which will be covered in drywall.

The 1938 barn was designed by the University of Maryland as a dairy barn to provide milk for troops in the area, according to WCC.

Now the new barn “will be poised to serve a different, but equally important role in supporting our Nation’s Veterans.”

According to WCC, when the new barn is completed, the first floor will have space for trainers, a large service dog training area and veterinary office. Administrative offices and meeting space will be on the upper floor.

The new barn will also have the brand-new addition of a 28 foot by 115 foot kennel area. Davis Construction is overseeing the project. It is expected to be completed in September.
