What’s Open, What’s Not for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Montgomery County government

The county will observe the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday Monday Jan. 17. Offices and facilities status:

  • County Offices — closed.
  • Libraries — closed.
  • County Liquor Stores — open from noon to 6 p.m.
  • Recreation Centers — closed.
  • Aquatics Facilities — open.

  • Ride On — operate normal hours.  Route information available at https://www.RideOnBus.com.
  • Ride On extRa and Flex — Not in service.
  • MARC Train and Commuter Bus — operate on R schedule on all three lines. Find more information at https://www.mta.maryland.gov/schedule?type=marc-train/.
  • Metrorail and Metrobus – Information available at www.wmata.com.
  • TRiPS Commuter Store at Silver Spring Transit Center — open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • TRiPS Mobile Commuter Store – closed.
  • Refuse/recycling Collections – County-provided trash and recycling collection will not be collected Monday, Jan. 17.  After the holiday, county-provided recycling and trash collections will slide, and be one day later than normal with last collection Saturday, Jan.22.
  • The Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station — entire facility closed.
  • Parking at public garages, lots, curbside meters – free.
  • MCPS Schools and Administrative Offices — closed.
  • State offices and courts — closed.

City of Gaithersburg

The city facilities and officers are closed on Monday, Jan. 17, with the exception of the Police Administrative Offices and the Aquatic Center.

Recycling — collection will take place as scheduled. Bulk pick up is unavailable.

Mayor & City Council session — rescheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 18.

City of Rockville

The city government and most city facilities will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 17. Offices and facilities status:

Rockville Swim and Fitness Center — open for regular hours

Recycling and trash — collection will occur one day later than usual throughout the week. More information is available at  www.rockvillemd.gov/recycling-trash or call 240-314-8568.

Parking — free at city-owned meters.
