What’s Open, What’s Not on Presidents Day

Here’s an overview of what’s open and what’s closed in Montgomery County this Presidents Day on Monday, Feb. 20.

Montgomery County

County Offices—Closed.

MC 311—Closed.

Libraries—Closed.

Alcohol Beverages Services (ABS)—All stores open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

County-operated COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Clinics—No clinics are held on Mondays.

Department of Permitting Services—All offices, including customer service lobby are closed.

Recreation—Aquatics facilities will be open and all aquatics programs will meet as scheduled.  All senior centers and community recreation centers will be closed. All other classes and programs will not be held.

Montgomery Parks – For special programs, events and operating schedule, including campgrounds, ice rinks and tennis centers, visit the Montgomery Parks website. Montgomery County Parks Headquarters, Customer Service and Permit Offices will be closed. The Open Parkways schedule is extended for the holiday weekend to include Monday, Feb. 21.

Ride On, Ride On extRa, and Ride On Flex—Will operate a holiday schedule

Flash—Orange Line operates a holiday schedule. The Blue Line will not operate.

Ride On—All holiday schedules can be found at: Special Holiday Schedules – Division of Transit Services – Montgomery County, Maryland (montgomerycountymd.gov).

MARC Train and Commuter bus—Operates on “R” schedule” on all three lines. This is a reduced level of service. Only trains with an “R” under the train number in the Camden and Penn Line timetables and Brunswick Line trains will operate.  In addition, some trains will make additional stops when operating on the “R” schedule.

Metrobus—Will operate on a Saturday supplemental schedule. See https://www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables/.

Metrorail—Will operate on Saturday Holiday schedule, with trains running from 5 a.m.-midnight. See https://www.wmata.com/schedules/timetables/.

TRiPS Silver Spring Commuter Store—Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

TRiPS Mobile Commuter StoreClosed

County-collected trash and recycling—No collection will be made on Feb. 20. Collections will slide one day later than usual throughout the week, with last pickup on Saturday, Feb. 25.  For information on the schedule go to https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/sws/holidays/

The Shady Grove Processing Facility and Transfer Station—Closed

Montgomery Parks—Visit MontgomeryParks.org for complete information. Additional schedule changes:

  • Open Parkways Schedule. The Open Parkways will be extended during the Presidents Day holiday weekend. During this time, parkways are open to pedestrians and bicyclists and closed to motor vehicles. This impacts Beach Drive between Connecticut and Knowles Avenue (2.9 miles), from 9 a.mSaturday, Feb. 18, until 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb, 21Sligo Creek Parkwaybetween Old Carroll Avenue and Piney Branch Road and between Forest Glen Road and University Boulevard West from 9 a.mSaturday, Feb. 18, until 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb, 21. Little Falls Parkway between Arlington Road and Dorset Avenue (0.4 miles) will be open 24/7 for recreation and exercise on one side of the median.
  • Montgomery Parks Headquarters and Permits Offices—Closed.
  • Montgomery Parks Public Information and Customer Service Office—Closed.
  • Brookside Gardens Visitor Center and Conservatory—Closed. (Gardens remain open.)

City of Gaithersburg

Gaithersburg City Hall and most city facilities will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20.

Recycling will take place as scheduled, but bulk pick up is unavailable. Bulk pickup is unavailable.

The regular Mayor and City Council Meeting will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

The Arts Barn will be open for the 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. performances of The Great Zucchini.

The Aquatic Center will be open 5:15 to 8:30 p.m. with lap swimming from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. and recreational swim from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Police Department Administrative Offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.


City of Rockville

Rockville City Hall and most city facilities will be closed on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 20.

Parking at city-owned meters will be free on Monday, Feb. 20.

The Rockville Swim and Fitness Center and the Rockville Skate Park will be open for regular hours.

All other city facilities will be closed, including the Rockville Senior Center; Croydon Creek Nature Center; Lincoln Park, Thomas Farm and Twinbrook community centers; Glenview Mansion; the Rockville Civic Center business office; and the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre box office.

Recycling and trash will be collected as usual on Monday, Feb. 20 and throughout the week.
