UPDATE: Woman Struck Crossing Downtown Crown Street Dies From Injuries

Police say that a 78-year-old woman died from her injuries this afternoon, days after she was struck by a vehicle that was trying to turn left onto Copley Place in Gaithersburg.

The woman, who has been identified by police as Eleanor Cohen of Gaithersburg, was leaving LA Fitness when she was struck by a 2017 GMC Sierra Denali.

Police are continuing to investigate this collision and urge anyone with information to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.

A 78-year-old woman is facing life-threatening injuries after she was struck this morning crossing a street in Downtown Crown, a Montgomery County police statement says.

The woman has just left the LA Fitness gym and was crossing Copley Place as she was walking to the Starbucks across the street.

Police say she was hit by a 2017 GMC Sierra Denali that was trying to turn left onto Copley Place after leaving the Harris Teeter grocery store parking lot.

Police identified the woman as Eleanor Cohen of Booth Street in Gaithersburg. She was taken to a local hospital.

Police identified the driver of the Denali as Ricardo S. Diogo, 40, of Corporate Boulevard in Rockville.
