WUMCO Help Aims to Improve Health of Western Upper County Residents

Western Upper Montgomery County residents live on the outskirts with limited public transportation and few medical facilities.

While Montgomery County has one primary care physician for every 734 residents, the area including the agriculture reserve only has one primary care physician for every 7,000 residents.

WUMCO Help in Poolesville aims to increase access to health care in the area. The safety net organization is holding a health fair on Oct. 15 and a dental clinic Oct. 31. The dental clinic will feature the non-profits new mobile dental van.

In 2021, WUMCO distributed 22,607 pounds of food, helped with housing and transportation and made Thanksgiving and Christmas better for hundreds of families.

Thanks to a new health care initiative, the group will engage in public outreach and learn what healthcare services are needed in the Poolesville area.
