5 Things to Know Today, April 19, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, April 19, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. MCPS Final Phase of Reopening:  Middle and High School students in grades 7 through 10 return to in-person instruction today. The majority of county schools has a waiting list of students who want to return to in-person learning.

2. Rent Relief Program:  Montgomery County is currently accepting applications for residents behind in their rent due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

3. County COVID-19 Testing and Vaccine Clinics: Free COVID-19 testing is available throughout the county at eight testing sites today. Health officials continue to stress the importance of testing to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Anyone 16 years and older is eligible for a vaccine. Pre-register online with county-run vaccine clinics or state mass vaccination sites.

4. Municipal Monday: Gaithersburg’s Mayor and Council meet virtually at 7:30 p.m. The agenda includes public hearings on the city budget and changing the zoning of two lots on South Summit Avenue. The Commissioners of the Town of Poolesville meet virtually at 7 p.m. The Mayor and Council of Rockville meet virtually at 7 p.m. and continue their work on the fiscal 2022 operating budget and the Rockville 2040 Comprehensive Plan.

5. Voting Rights and Fair Elections: The League of Women Voters’ Trending Topics discussions series continues tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. with an examination of the 2020 primary and general elections and the steps the Maryland General Assembly took to protect voting rights. The discussion is free, registration is required.

And One More Thing:  Montgomery Community Media and the County Council discuss microaggressions in a special presentation titled #SeeMeMontgomery: Microaggressions. A microagression is defined as: “A statement, action or incident regarded as an instance of indirect, subtle or unintentional.” Watch the conversation here:
