5 Things to Know Today, Aug. 5 In Montgomery County

Today is Friday, Aug. 5. Here’s the 10 day forecast as we head into the weekend and 5 things to know today and this weekend.

1. Primary Election Update: The Board of Elections continues counting the mail in ballots from the July 19 Primary Election. The race for the Democratic candidate for County Executive is too close to call. Today the count continues at the Montgomery College Germantown campus. The canvass is streamed live and the public is welcome to attend.

2. Public Health Internships: The Maryland Department of Health is looking for college students interested in Public Health to participate in an internship program in the fall. The deadline to submit an application is today, Aug. 5.

3. Pediatric COVID Vaccination Clinics:  The public schools and the health department are vaccinating children ages 6 months to 5 years old this weekend. Appointments are required and may be made online.

5. Salvadoran-American Festival and Latino Health Fair This annual fair featuring Salvadoran food, crafts and music by local and international bands, along with community and educational resources takes place Saturday, Aug. 6 at Montgomery College’s Rockville campus in Rockville from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

And One More Thing: The percussionist group Enviro Drum Maryland will perform at the Germantown Library Saturday, Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. Registration is required for this free concert.
