5 Things to Know Today, Dec. 18, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, Dec. 18 and here are five things to know. Check the weather forecast here.

1. Partial Metro Red Line Shutdown: Metro’s Red Line rail service will not operate between Dupont Circle and Gallery Place through Dec. 21 and again between Dec. 25 and 30. There will be free shuttle bus service between the closed stations.

2. Mobile Market:  The Universities at Shady Grove’s Mobile Market free food distribution is back from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. Stop by Lot 5 (visitor’s parking lot), bring your grocery bags, and pick up some food. The market welcomes all volunteers, sign up here if interested in helping.

3. County Animal Shelter Waives Fees: The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center currently waives all adoption fees to alleviate overcrowding. MCASAC is open today from noon to 7 p.m. Telephone 240.773.5900 if you have questions.

4. Santa Visits Olney Neighborhoods:  The Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department is once again helping Santa make his way through the neighborhoods. The Santa rides began Sunday and continue nightly through Friday.

5. MCPS Budget: Thursday, Dr. McKnight proposed a 5% increase to the operating budget for the next school year.
