Today is Monday, July 26, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Council Media Briefing: Council President Tom Hucker and Vice President Gabe Albornoz are holding a media briefing today at noon to discuss early voting centers for the 2022 election, the Council’s upcoming vote on zoning changes for 5G wireless infrastructure and new legislation to eliminate no-rehire clauses.

2. COVID-19 Variants:  This Vox video explains why so many COVID-19 variants are showing up now and what that means for the pandemic.

3. Seniors on the Go: There are still a few spots left in this in person recreation program for those 55 and up. The program is held at the Germantown Community Recreation Center this week (Monday through Friday) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

4. VaxU Scholarship drawing:  The state’s promotion to encourage young Marylanders ages 12 through 17 to get the COVID-19 vaccine so far has awarded four students with a $50,000 college tuition scholarship. The Maryland Higher Education Commission will announce two winners every Monday from July 12 to Labor Day. On the eighth week, four winners will be announced.

5. GoVax Rewards:  There are numerous deals and discounts for persons who have received COVID-19 vaccination listed on Maryland’s Office of Tourism website.
