5 Things to Know Today, March 20, In Montgomery County

Today is the first day of spring, expect sunny skies with a high temp near 51°. Here are five things to know today, Monday, March 20.

1. Council President Briefing: Council President Evan Glass will meet with the media today at 1:30 p.m to discuss the Council’s review of the recommended operating budget and other council matters. The briefing will be streamed on the Council’s Facebook page here.

2. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. tonight for a regular session (both in-person and virtual). The meeting agenda and information packet is available online.The Poolesville Commissioners meet at 6 p.m. and the agenda may be found online. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 7 p.m. for a Fiscal Year 2024 budget worksession. The agenda with supporting documents is available online.

3. Congressional Art Contest Deadline:  Students who are planning to submit artwork have until today by 5 p.m.

4. Women’s History Month:

  • Library virtual presentation by local authors Claudia Kousoulas and Ellen Letourneau. They will talk about their book, The Culinary History of Montgomery County Maryland tonight at 6:30 p.m. Join via zoom.
  • Winners of the Total Betty contest to be announced today.
  • Meet small business owner Jocelyn Park in this video. She talks about her learning center located in downtown Rockville.

5. C-SPAN StudentCam Competition: Congratulations to Prim Shah and Nimay Sharma, 6th graders from Germantown’s Martin Luther King middle school, for winning the grand prize in the C-SPAN StudentCam documentary competition.
