5 Things to Know Today, March 7, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, March 7, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Silver Spring Apartment Explosion: Efforts continue to assist the residents displaced by Thursday’s explosion and fire. The Red Cross and the county’s Department of Health and Human Services held an informational meeting Sunday evening for residents to learn about available resources and the recovery process.

2. Council Media Briefing: Council President Gabe Albornoz and Councilmember Nancy Navarro will hold a media briefing today at 11:45 a.m. Council President Albornoz will provide updates on the Council’s Tuesday meeting and Councilmember Navarro will discuss an initiative to expand wellness centers in the schools. Emergency Preparedness Manager Sean O’Donnell will provide a public health update. The briefing will be streamed on the Council’s Facebook page here.

3. Cokie: A Life Well Lived with Steve Roberts: The libraries and Bethesda Metro Area Village co-host this virtual discussion from 2 to 3 p.m. today. The discussion with Steve Roberts, Cokie Roberts husband of 53 years and bestselling-coauthor, will talks about the extraordinary live and legacy of journalist Coke Roberts. 4. Sligo Creek Trail Closes:  A stretch of the trail closes today for about a month.

5. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. The agenda and information packet are posted. The Poolesville Town Commissioners meet virtually at 7 p.m. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet virtually at 7 p.m. The agenda may be found online here.

And one more thing: The libraries continue to distribute COVID-19 test kits and N95 masks. Residents may stop by their whenever the library is open and pick up the kits and masks.
