5 Things to Know Today, Sept. 18, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, Sept. 18 and here are five things to know today. Check the weather forecast online here.

1. Council President Briefing: Council President Evan Glass will meet with the media today at 1:30 p.m. Glass will provide an update on the upcoming Council vote on the Safe Streets Act and other Council matters. Watch the briefing on the Council’s Facebook page here.

2. Early Voting Centers: The county Board of Elections meets Monday at 3 p.m. and is looking for public comments on the proposed sites for early voting.

3. Read to a Dog: At Germantown Library from 5 to 6 p.m. Children build confidence as they read one-on-one with a therapy dog. Readers will each get up to 10-minutes to visit and read with a therapy dog. This program is intended for kids ages 5-10 who have some ability to read aloud on their own. A limited number of tickets will be available beginning at 4 p.m. at the children’s information desk. First come, first served. No siblings or adults allowed in the session.

4. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. The agenda and agenda packet are available online. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 7 p.m. The agenda may be found here online.

5. Schools Close Early Friday: Montgomery County Public Schools close early Friday, Sept. 22.
