3. Federal job losses hit Maryland hardest in U.S. with nearly 25,000 cuts: Maryland led the nation in the most federal jobs lost by American workers last year. According to new data released Wednesday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics an estimated 24,900 federal positions were cut since January 2025.  More than 10,000 of those jobs were lost during the months of October and November alone.

4. State property taxes show slower growth: When it comes to property tax for some Montgomery County homeowners, there’s good news… and bad news. This year, the Maryland Department of Assessment and Taxation reviewed property values for Silver Spring, Bethesda, Potomac, Wheaton and Olney.

5. ICYMI: They’ve gone from training as young kids at the Wheaton Ice Skating Academy to now being on the doorstep of qualifying for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. Montgomery County natives Caroline Green and Michael Parsons are vying for three pair spots in ice dancing in the Olympics that will be awarded on Jan. 11.
