Local football prospects await NFL Draft call

The anticipation is almost over as the NFL Draft starts Thursday night in Pittsburgh. Several players from Montgomery County are hoping their names will be called. The draft has seven rounds that take place over three days.

Mansoor Delane of Silver Spring will be the highest pick that hails from Montgomery County. The cornerback is a projected top 10 selection. Delane is listed by top NFL evaluators as the number one player at his position.

Wide receiver Octavian Smith Jr. of Burtonsville is a possible late round selection. Smith had a very productive senior season at the University of Maryland. Smith Jr. attended Paint Branch High School and was the Class 4A Montgomery County Outstanding Player of the Year in 2021.

Germantown’s Jude Bowry is another local hopeful. The offensive tackle prepped at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore and is projected as a middle round selection.

Defensive back Jalen Huskey played high school football at county power Quince Orchard and is projected as a late round pick.
