A 19-year-old from Silver Spring has been charged in connection with a fight and shooting on Wednesday in the parking lot of James Hubert Blake High School in Cloverly.
Djibia Gombo of Silver Spring was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, according to Montgomery County Police. He currently is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, awaiting a bond hearing.
The Montgomery County Police Department Community Engagement Officer, who already was on the school campus, learned of the fight. The officer as well as Montgomery County Public Schools security members went to the scene.
A handgun was recovered by school security, according to police.
Shortly after the fight ended, a 17-year-old male arrived at White Oak Medical Center suffering from a gunshot wound. Preliminary information indicates the teen was involved in the fight, according to police.
Detectives have determined that during the fight, the gun discharged and the teen was shot.
