Search ongoing for missing swimmer in Potomac River

Rescuers continue their search Monday for a missing swimmer who is presumed drowned in the Potomac River.

On Sunday after 6 p.m., a man who was swimming was separated from a group, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer. Rescuers searched the swimmer’s last known location near Sandy Landing. They also searched surrounding areas by land, boat and air, according to MCFRS.

The search was suspended Sunday evening and resumed Monday at daylight. MCFRS deployed boats around Great Falls and Old Anglers Inn Monday morning to continue the search, according to Piringer.
