During his Monday briefing with the media, Montgomery County Council President Gabe Albornoz congratulated the Board of Elections, judges and volunteers for its ‘outstanding work counting ballots’ and said he is ‘mentally and emotionally’ prepared for his second term in the council based on the unofficial results provided daily by the State Board of Elections.
Albornoz also recognized the work of his colleagues that will not be part of the council in the near future.
Councilmember Evan Glass said he “is really excited for the six new members of the council” and remarked that “this is the year of the women”.
Dr. Gilberto Zelaya from the Montgomery County Board of Elections joined Albornoz in the virtual meeting to share the latest numbers of the counting efforts. As of July 24 at 6:00 p.m.:
Total ballots received: 55,285
Mail-in ballots scanned: 30,218
USPS Ballots Received: 32,312
Mail-in Ballots (hand counted): 36,633

The Board of Elections will resume counting mail-in ballots on Wednesday.
