Alcohol Beverage Service Hopes Coasters Will Help Prevent Drunk Driving

Montgomery County’s Alcohol Beverage Service (ABS) is distributing coasters with a scannable QR code that displays an online list of alternative transportation in an effort to prevent drunk driving during the holiday season. ABS will be partnering with local businesses to give out coasters according to a press release from the county.

The message “Had one too many? Scan for Ride” is printed on the coasters. After patrons scan the QR code, there is an online list with contact information for taxis operating in the county and information about public transportation services according to the release.

Bars and restaurants do not need to pay for the coasters.  Local businesses that would like to participate can email ABSLicensing@MontgomeryCountyMD.gov according to the release.

“As people get ready to celebrate the holiday season, we encourage them to make a plan for a safe ride home if they decide to drink,” said Kathie Durbin, ABS Director. “Drunk driving is a threat to our community and keeping our community safe is everyone’s responsibility.”

For more information, community members can follow ABS on  Facebook and Twitter.
