Chance the Rapper Honors Montgomery County Teacher on Instagram

Chance the Rapper awarded a Hallie Wells Middle School teacher $30,000 during his Instagram Live Twilight Awards, which recognizes teachers who engage students in unique ways.

Michael Doggett is an English teacher at Hallie Wells. His “Hey Students” raps on YouTube help him connect with students while they learn from home. Doggett spoke with MyMCMedia about meeting Chance and the importance of letting teachers be creative. He said like hip hop artists, teachers have to be authentic, and even freestyle when something goes wrong in class.

Doggett and Hallie Wells Middle School will each get $15,000 of the award.
