Clarksburg man charged with recording underage girls at Walter Johnson

A Clarksburg man was arrested and charged with recording underage girls in a Walter Johnson High School theater changing room, according to Montgomery County Police.

James Mulhern III, 43, a media services technician at the high school in Bethesda, was charged with sex abuse of a minor. He was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is being held awaiting a bond hearing.

According to police, school staff at Montgomery County Public Schools notified officers on Wednesday that on April 7, two students at Walter Johnson High School found a video camera in the control booth of the school’s theater.

One of the students viewed the contents of the memory card and saw videos recorded inside the girls’ changing room in the theater area, according to police.

“The video shows an adult male placing the camera and leaving the room while it was recording. A short time later, teenage girls entered the room and began changing clothes for a theater performance,” according to a police news release.

Mulhern was identified by the school’s principal, police said.

On Wednesday, detectives executed a search warrant at the high school and at Mulhern’s home, where they collected several electronic devices.
