Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics for Feb 3

The Maryland Department of Health reported 147 new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County Wednesday morning. The county’s cumulative case count is 59,439.

Montgomery County recorded seven new coronavirus-related fatalities Wednesday, bringing the death toll to 1,276.

As of Wednesday, 26 schools in the state are reporting COVID-19 cases, six are located in Montgomery County. They include:

  • The Avalon School in Wheaton reports five cases.
  • Brookewood School located in Kensington reports three cases.
  • Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda reports seven cases.
  • Our Lady of Mercy in Potomac reports three cases.
  • St. Raphael School in Rockville reports nine cases.
  • The Heights School located in Potomac reports four cases.

The county has a rolling seven-day average of 5.22% for positive COVID-19 tests, which is an increase of 0.16 from Tuesday’s average rate of 5.06%. The county’s positivity rate is lower than in 19 of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions.

With 1,276 fatalities, Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities but not in total cases. Prince George’s County has the most coronavirus cases in the state with 68,490 cases and 1,215 fatalities.

Somerset County located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore has the most cases per capita cases with 88.5 cases per 1,000 residents. Allegany County in the western region of the state has the second-highest cases per capita at 88.3 cases per 1,000 residents.

Wednesday the state recorded 942 new infections.  The state’s cumulative case count is 357,483.

There are currently 1,485 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 across the state as of Wednesday morning. The number of hospitalizations appears to be declining from the pandemic high of nearly 2,000 patients on Jan. 11.

Wednesday the state recorded 31 newly reported deaths, bringing the state death toll to 7,043.

The state reported a rolling seven-day average of 5.96% for positive COVID-19 tests Wednesday. This is an increase of 0.17 from Tuesday’s rate of 5.79%.
