DC Man Faces Attempted Murder Charges After Shooting at Officer in Olney

Update on Wednesday 1:50 pm:

Brox waived his right to a bond hearing so he is being held without bond according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

A man accused of firing at a Maryland-National Capital Park Police Officer Tuesday morning in Olney has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, according to police.

Trevon Garrett Brox, 26, faces several charges including transporting a loaded handgun in a vehicle, discharging a handgun creating a serious risk of death or physical injury and possessing a firearm after being convicted of robbery, a crime of violence, police said.

According to court records, Brox lives in Washington D.C.

The initial incident began at approximately 9:16 a.m. Tuesday morning when officers responded to the Olney Swim Center for a call of a suspicious person. The staff at the center believed the suspect was related to previous thefts at the establishment.

When officers arrived at the scene, they attempted to stop the suspect but Brox reportedly fled North on Georgia Avenue. Officers did not engage in a pursuit, according to Park Police.

Patrolling officers in the area spotted a vehicle matching the fleeing vehicle 1.5 miles further north on Georgia Avenue near King William Drive. The vehicle was involved in a collision and witnesses there told police the driver had fled on foot.

Police located the suspect in the area of Buchler Court. Upon approaching the suspect, Brox fired one shot from a handgun at close range at a Park Police officer, authorities said. The shot missed, impacting an empty car in the vicinity.

The suspect fled a second time but was taken into custody shortly after without further incident, police said.

The Montgomery County Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the arrest.
