Elrich Has Big Plans for Second Term

After being reelected Tuesday, Executive Marc Elrich excitedly discussed plans for his second term that include making Montgomery County a more affordable place to live, bringing in STEM jobs and education and turning the county more green.

Elrich was re-elected Tuesday night with an unofficial vote count of 167,644 to his Republican opponent Reardon Sullivan’s 65,828. Elrich received about two-and-a-half times as many votes as Reardon.

Four years ago, Elrich faced two candidates and received 259,901 votes to Independent Nancy Floreen’s 76,092 and Republican Robin Ficker’s 65,096. A total of 401,483 vote were cast.

Tuesday, the unofficial total vote count for executive was 238,782.

At his victory party in Silver Spring, Elrich spoke of bringing rent control to the county. He also talked about an educational center planned for White Flint that would unite area colleges and a developer to create a facility that would graduate residents ready for jobs in STEM fields.

A press conference on this development is set for Thursday.
