Five Things to Know for Sept. 18 in Montgomery County

It’s Wednesday, Sept. 18. and we are halfway through another week! Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. School Immunization Clinic: Students in 7th through 12th grade need to show proof of immunization records by Sept. 23 or they’ll be excluded from attending MCPS schools. Today from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., students in 7th through 12th grade can receive free Tdap (tetanus-diphtheria-attenuated pertussis) and meningococcal -meningitis vaccinations at Dennis Avenue Health Center in Silver Spring. People can also get immunizations from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the School Health Services Center in Rockville.

2. Remembering Cokie Roberts: Award-winning journalist and Bethesda resident Cokie Robert passed away yesterday from complications with breast cancer. MCM has worked with Roberts many times over the years. Check out some of the stories and memories she shared with us.

3. Cookies with Carey: Carey Apple, the supervisor for Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center (KSAC) in Rockville, is talking to pool-goers this morning at KSAC from 10 to 11 a.m. about ways the aquatic center can be improved. Stop by and have some cookies.

4. Green Rockville Happy Hour: Croydon Creek Nature Center and the Rockville Watersheds Committee is hosting a Green Rockville Happy Hour tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at True Respite Brewing Company, located at 7301 Calhoun Place, #600, in Derwood.
