UPDATE: Suspect Charged in Bethesda Homicide of Former Chevy Chase Village Manager

Update (June 30 at 12:10 p.m.) Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department have arrested and charged 36-year-old Billy J. Phillips III of Key West Avenue in Rockville for the murder of 66-year-old Geoffrey Biddle.

Biddle worked for Chevy Chase Village for about 15 years.

On Thursday, June 24 at 11:30 a.m., officers responded to Biddle’s home located on the 4600 block of Windsor Lane in Bethesda for a welfare check where he was found dead from a gunshot wound.

According to an MCPD press release, during the homicide investigation, detectives identified Phillips III as the suspect. Investigators eventually obtained an arrest warrant for Phillips III, charging him with first-degree murder.

Phillips III was arrested at his home on Tuesday afternoon and transported to the Central Processing Unit, where he is being held without bond. Authorities say Phillips III has a bond review scheduled on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Rockville District Court.

Original Post (June 28 at 4:30 p.m.) A former Chevy Chase Village Manager was found dead in his Bethesda home last week, according to Montgomery County Police. An autopsy revealed that 66-year-old Geoffrey Biddle was shot, and authorities have ruled his death a homicide.

On Thursday, at 11:30 a.m., officers responded to Biddle’s home located on the 4600 block of Windsor Lane for a welfare check. Co-workers contacted the police after Biddle didn’t report to work.

MCPD says there are no suspects in custody regarding this case, and the investigation is ongoing.

According to the Chevy Chase Village website, Biddle worked for Chevy Chase Village from March 1994 through August 2009. He was appointed  Village Manager in 2003 and served through 2009 before he resigned to accept a position in the private sector.
