The Quince Orchard Cougars (10-0) will host the Northwest Jaguars (5-5) in the second round of the Maryland class 4A playoffs in MyMCM’s Game of the Week.

Both teams won in dominant fashion during the first round of the playoffs. Quince Orchard beat Clarksburg 56-0, while Northwest defeated Bethesda-Chevy Chase 53-6.

Quince Orchard has won 24 straight games since the start of last season, including winning the 2021 class 4A state championship. This season, the Cougars have been anchored by a dominant defense that has surrendered just 21 points through 10 games.

Northwest has posted a 4-2 record since interim head coach Yaw Aidoo took over for Travis Hawkins. Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) suspended Hawkins and subsequently “vacated” his position after a fight broke out during a Sept. 16 football game against Gaithersburg High School.

Northwest’s most recent loss came in Week 8 at the hands of Quince Orchard. The final score was  41-6.

Earlier this season, MyMCM talked to Quince Orchard head coach John Kelley and some of the QO players.

Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. this Friday at Quince Orchard High School in Gaithersburg. Rain is in the forecast for Friday night.
