Man Dies After Shooting in Boyds; Suspect Still at Large

Detectives with the Montgomery County Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that happened in Boyds on Tuesday evening. Authorities do not believe this was a random incident.

Emergency dispatch received a call for the report of a shooting on the 12000 block of Ethel Rose Way shortly before 7:00 pm. Responding officers found 23-year-old Javon Jamal Gordon of Boyds lying in the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body.

According to an MCPD press release, residents tried to administer CPR to Gordon, and responding officers also continued to attempt lifesaving measures. Despite the lifesaving attempts, Gordon was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A preliminary investigation determined that Gordon briefly interacted with the suspect, who was in a vehicle, before he was shot. The suspect fled the area in the vehicle.

Detectives say there’s a possibility that more than one suspect was in the car and is involved in this case. This homicide investigation remains active and ongoing. Police have not confirmed any further details.

The family of Gordon set up a GoFundMe fundraiser to help cover his funeral expenses.

The Department urges anyone with information about this homicide or involved suspect(s) to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070 or Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online.  A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the homicide suspect(s).
