Maryland Reports 12 COVID-19 Deaths Since Monday, None in Montgomery County

Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics

Tuesday morning the Maryland Department of Health reported 17,230 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 66 from the 17,164 cases reported Monday.

Since the first case in March, 748 county residents have died from COVID-19. There were no new deaths reported Tuesday.  More Montgomery County residents have died due to COVID-19 than any other jurisdiction in the state. Prince George’s has lost 708 residents, the second-highest number.

The positivity rate of 3.66% reported Tuesday is an increase of 0.22% since Monday. This is the 14th straight day the rate remained below 4% in the county.

As of Tuesday morning, there have been 85,524 confirmed cases throughout the state. That is an increase of 648 cases in the last 24 hours. Montgomery County makes up only 10% of the new cases statewide, down from a high of over 30% in May. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 3,327 Marylanders, 12 since Monday.

Currently, 544 Marylanders are hospitalized with COVID-19, which is eight more than Monday. Statewide hospitalizations had risen 41% since July 13 when 386 patients were hospitalized.  Of the patients currently in the hospital, 150 are in intensive care, which is five more than Monday.

The health department reported a testing positivity rate of 4.54% Monday, which is a decrease of 0.07% from Monday’s rate of 4.61%. The rate has remained below 5% for more than three weeks since June 26.

Statewide, a total of 25,880 cases and 1,361 deaths involve the state’s African American community.
