Montgomery County government non-emergency services will be closed Monday. Government facilities, including libraries, recreation centers, aquatic centers and senior centers, also will be closed.
All activities scheduled through Community Use of Public Facilities are canceled for Monday.
Residents may sign up for Alert Montgomery for text and email updates concerning weather conditions and closings. They also may visit the Winter Storm Portal for storm updates.
School Closings
Montgomery County Public Schools will be closed Monday for a previously scheduled staff planning day and closed Tuesday due the snow emergency.
Before- and after-school child care programs will be closed Monday and Tuesday.
Public Transportation
RideOn buses will operate on a S service schedule. Riders should check the Ride On website for route updates and service changes.
Public Works
All county-provided trash and recycling collections are canceled for Monday, and collections will follow a slide schedule, with the last collection on Saturday, Jan. 31.
WSSC continues to respond to water and sewer emergencies. As of Sunday afternoon, there are no reported breaks and 19 leaks. Since the winter season began on Nov. 1, 2025. WSSC Water crews have responded to 901 water main breaks and leaks.
The extreme cold is forecasted to drop to single digits Monday, according to the National Weather Service, which has historically meant an increase in the number of breaks and leaks, frozen pipes and drinking water production challenges, noted the water utility. In the event of a water/sewer emergency:
