Montgomery County Offers Assistance to Residents During Open Enrollment Period

Open enrollment for people getting their health and dental insurance through Maryland Health Connection (MHC) began Friday, Nov. 1. MHC is Maryland’s official health insurance marketplace.

Residents may visit MarylandHealthConnection.gov  online to browse plans, compare coverage and costs, and enroll for coverage that begins Jan. 1, 2020. Enrollment is open until Sunday, Dec. 15, for residents to sign up for coverage.

According to a news release, health plan rates have dropped this year by an average of 10 percent. Value Plans, new this year, offer lower out-of-pocket costs and more services before one has to meet the deductible.

Last year, nine out of 10 Marylanders who enrolled through MHC received financial help to cover some or all their costs.

Free, in-person help is available from a certified health insurance navigator. Assistance also is available in multiple languages. Meet navigator Adriana in this short MHC video:

Open enrollment is for private health plans and dental plans only. People who qualify for Medicaid can apply any time of year. They will receive a notice when it’s time to renew.
