Montgomery COVID-19 Transmission Rate Climbs; Two Deaths Reported

Montgomery County’s COVID-19 community transmission rate continues to climb. As of Sunday, Montgomery County is reporting a rate of 66.1 new cases per 100,000 persons in the past seven days. The CDC considers this a substantial rate and recommends face masks be worn indoors regardless of a person’s vaccination status.

County officials recently passed a health regulation requiring face masks in public indoor areas that took effect Saturday. When the county’s transmission rate drops to a moderate level—below 50—for seven days, the requirement will be lifted.

Monday, 87 new cases of COVID-19 in the county were reported, bringing the cumulative total to 73,058.

Montgomery County averaged 9.7 new cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 residents Monday according to the data from the county’s COVID-19 information portal.

The county last reported 29 patients hospitalized with COVID-19. This represents only 2.3% of the total hospital beds in the county.

There were no new COVID-19 fatalities reported Monday. Since Friday, Aug. 6, there have been two deaths reported, bringing the death toll to 1,585.

Increasing the number of persons who are vaccinated is the most important factor in slowing the spread of COVID-19. Vaccinations are currently available to anyone 12 years of age and older. More information about COVID-19 vaccines may be found online at the COVID-19 information portal.
