Part of a plane wing reportedly landed on police training grounds in Montgomery Village last week.

According to county police, officers at the Public Safety Training Academy on Snouffer School Road saw a part fall from an aircraft last Monday, April 22. No injuries or damage have been reported. Police noted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was contacted.

A wing tip was found at the academy, County Councilmember Dawn Luedtke stated in an email letter last week to acting manager at the FAA Baltimore Federal Standards District Office.

“If this part fell off an airborne aircraft, it is deeply concerning and merits serious investigation and corrective measures. We are fortunate there are no reported injuries related to the incident,” Luedtke stated. She said the part was from a Piper PA-44 Seminole aircraft.

In the letter, the councilmember said she expects a thorough report about the circumstances of the incident, including details about the “apparent equipment failure,” plane operator, origin, and destination, and confirmation of when the plane last had a full mechanical inspection. On the correspondence, she copied the manager of the Montgomery County Airpark. The airpark is in proximity to where the plane part reportedly fell.
