Pedestrian Fatally Struck on Veirs Mill Road

Police said a pedestrian died after he was struck by a driver Sunday on Veirs Mill Road.

Hernan Zuasnabar Cunyas, 46, of Silver Spring, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release from the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).

Officers and fire rescue personnel responded to Veirs Mill and Newport Mill roads in the Wheaton-Glenmont area at about 5:04 a.m. Sunday for a reported pedestrian struck. According to police, a driver in a 2007 Toyota Rav4 struck Cunyas as the driver was going eastbound on Veirs Mill Road. The driver stayed on scene, police said.

Police said it is an active investigation. MCPD asks anyone with information to contact detectives at (240) 773-6620.

On Sunday, the Maryland State Police Department said a pedestrian died after running onto I-270 and being struck twice. On May 12, a 14-year-old middle schooler died days after he was critically injured while crossing Wisteria Drive in Germantown.
