UPDATE: Police Arrest 2 Connected to ‘Shots Fired’ Incident in Wheaton-Glenmont; 1 Still at Large

Update (March 30, 10:30 a.m.): Detectives from Montgomery County Police Department’s Wheaton district are investigating the discharging of a firearm that occured in the Wheaton-Glenmont area on Friday.

Police say there have been no reported victims or injuries from the gun fire. Initially, officers pursued a suspect’s vehicle to Olney, which is where two other suspects were taken into custody. The third suspect from the vehicle is still at large, police said.

On Friday, police were dispatched to the area of 12500 block of Georgia Avenue at 7:12 p.m. for reports of shots fired. Officers found multiple shell casings and broken glass in the area.

“Witnesses reported that a red vehicle and a white vehicle fled from the area immediately after they heard the sound of shots,” police say.

Minutes after the shooting an officer traveling on Layhill Road “observed a red Acura and a white vehicle driving north on Layhill Road at Norbeck Road.” These vehicles matched the description of the vehicle that fled from the scene of the “shots fired” incident.

Police eventually lost sight on the white vehicle and officers tried stopping the Acura via a traffic stop. When the Accura ignored to stop for police, officers pursued the Acura on Norwood Road toward Route 108.

As police pursued the Acura, they noticed a front seat passenger throwing what looked like U.S. currency out the window. Eventually the Acura stopped on Buehler Court in Olney, and police arrested two men who were sitting in the driver’s seat and front passenger seat.

Police say, “A rear-seat passenger in the Acura fled from the vehicle and has not been located.”

Police did not find any weapons during the investigation, but they found “multiple counterfeit $100 bills in the area where officers saw the front seat passenger throwing money out of the car’s window.”

Detectives are continuing to investigate this case and charges are pending. Police will release the names of the suspect once they are formally charged.

Anyone with information about the initial shots fired call in the 12500 block of Georgia Avenue should call Wheaton district investigators at 240-773-5530.

An “Alert Montgomery” message sent at 9:49 p.m. says: “Montgomery County Police have lifted the Shelter in Place for residents in the vicinity of Shamrock Dr & Buehler Rd. County police thank residents for their cooperation.”

It’s unclear if police have caught the suspect.
